In this edition of KHSD NEWS we bring you highlights of a field trip for students to explore the opportunities at our Regional Occupational Center and show you how our students are using creativity to save lives. We also celebrate the opening of a new Parent and Family Center and incredible KHSD art teacher talent on display!

This month we share the many accomplishments of our programs throughout the Kern High School District. You will find details on our outstanding Virtual Enterprise classes, Future Farmers of America, Chess, Mock Trial, and Robotics students.
We will also take you inside our latest Parent and Family Center as we celebrate additional opportunities for parent engagement and visit the Bakersfield High School archives for the rich history of our district in our 125th year. Be sure to read the story on our first “Young Women Empowered for Leadership” event and the inspirational messages shared with our young people.

Channel 17's Maddie Janssen interviewed Brian Miller, the KHSD Regional Occupational Center Supervising Administrator, and shared details of the upcoming Kern County Career Expo with viewers.

KBAK/KBFX Reporter Jeff Platt recently visited the diamond at Arvin High School to learn about the rich history of the program and the future of the facilities.

Harold Pierce, Education Reporter for the Bakersfield Californian spent some time at the KHSD Regional Occupational Center recently exploring the vast program offerings for local students promoting career and college readiness.

Channel 17's Alex Fisher spent some time in a class at Stockdale High School recently learning how students are KHSD students are promoting problem solving and creativity in a multimedia environment.

A wonderful range of pieces from high schools students throughout the KHSD will be on display at the Wylie and May Louise Jones Gallery at Bakersfield College, 1801 Panorama Drive, Bakersfield CA, 93305, from February 1st through March 8th, 2018 with the opening reception on February 1st from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

The talent of our Kern High School District employees is on full display at a special event at Younger Gallery. The RAD Women’s Invitational: “A Celebration of Women Artists” is opening for First Friday, February 2nd featuring the work of several KHSD teachers. An opening reception is scheduled for First Friday, February 2nd from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. and a closing reception will be on March 2nd from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Younger Gallery is located at 1430 Truxtun Avenue.

The Regional Occupational Center hosted a special event to help KHSD students get a head start on their future and experience the programs available to boost career and college readiness.
