Lincoln Day Essay Scholar Award
Centennial High School senior, Aleyna Young, received a standing ovation at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner Thursday evening held at the DoubleTree Hotel, after reading the essay she entered in the Lincoln Day Essay Contest. Her essay earned her the Scholar Award. Students were asked to pick a current issue that has either a local or national impact and explain how Abraham Lincoln would deal with if he were president today. The Lincoln Scholarship Essay Contest is in honor of Abraham Lincoln's birthday.
James L. Murdoch Lifetime Achievement Award
Kern High School District Executive Director of Facilities, Jenny Hannah-Brown, received a prestigious honor at the 41st Annual Conference on School Facilities on Thursday in Long Beach. California’s Coalition for Adequate School Housing (C.A.S.H.) presented Hannah-Brown with the James L. Murdoch Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honors the memory and legacy of the late Jim Murdoch, who displayed a commitment to education and school facilities. C.A.S.H. recognized Hannah-Brown for her dedication in carrying on Jim’s legacy in her professional career.
